ATHENS, Ohio - Chuck Nettles was named the Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsman of the Year by the Mid-American Conference as Ohio closed play at the 2011 MAC Championships from TPC River's Bend Golf Club in Maineville, Ohio.
Bradley Lucas closed with an outstanding round, his best of the tournament, as his score of 72 moved him up five spots in the rankings. The sophomore finished in a tie for 11th, and was only stroke out of the top 10 for the tournament.
Connor Coldwater suffered through his worst round of the tournament, dropping five spots back into a tie for 36th. Meanwhile, Paul Grauer stayed tied for 39th and Byron Firestone had his best round of the tournament with a 79, but stayed in 41st. Mark Reinhold had his second-best round of the tournament and moved up one spot, finishing in a tie for 42nd.
The Bobcats had their best round of the tournament but it made no difference when all was said and done, as the team finished ninth, 18 strokes out of eighth.
Kent State captured its third straight team title and 19th overall with a four-round total of 1151 (292-271-292-292). The Golden Flashes' margin of victory was the fifth largest in the 65-year history of the MAC Championship. KSU junior Mackenzie Hughes claimed individual medalist honors with a four-under 284 (70-67-73-74) earning him a two-shot victory over teammate John Hahn as the Golden Flashes had four players finish in the top 10.
