Akron, Ohio - Kelly Lamberti notched 17 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the season and Ohio ran its winning streak against MAC opponents to 11 matches with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 win at Akron this evening. The Bobcats hit over .300 for the third time in four matches as Katie Post also added 12 kills for Ohio.
Post hit an Ohio season-high .571 in the match and has not hit over .500 in three matches this season. Lamberti's 17 kills were the second-most by the freshman in a three-set match. She had 18 in the win over Miami two weeks ago. Bailey Karst's 43 assists were three shy of her career-best (46 vs. Virginia) and Mollie Geske led Ohio with 14 digs.
Down 10-8 in the first set, Ohio rattled off five-straight points to take its first lead, 13-10. Leading 20-17, the Bobcats scored four more, culminating in a Karst ace for the largest lead of the set, 24-17. Akron responded with five points of its own before Lamberti's seventh kill of the set ended things, 25-22 in favor of the visitors. Lamberti hit .429 in the set while Faith Robins had four kills on eight swings. As a team, Ohio hit .349 in the first stanza.
Down 6-3 in the second set, Ohio would once again erase an early deficit, scoring four in a row to take its first lead. With the set tied, 13-13, the Bobcats scored four straight to create some breathing room at 17-13. Still ahead 17-15, the Green & White picked up the next seven points and would eventually win 25-16. Ohio hit .324 in the set with Post racking up five kills while Chelsea Bilger and Lamberti added four apiece.
Ohio would trail once again, 12-8, in the third set to the Zips, but scored eight of the next 10 to take a 16-14 lead. Akron did not go away and cut the Ohio lead to 20-19. However, the Bobcats scored five of the final six points to earn the sweep, 25-20. Lamberti racked up six kills in the set while Post added five. With the sweep, Ohio has now won 26-consecutive sets against MAC opponents
Ohio plays at Buffalo tomorrow night with the match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
