Final Stats
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Volleyball evened its record at the JQH Invitational this afternoon with a 3-0 win over Southeast Missouri State (25-15, 25-22, 25-20). Meryl Bender had a career-high nine assists and seven digs for the Bobcats.
Katie Post had a career-high 13 kills to go along with a match-high three total blocks. Sue Jacobi led the Bobcats with 14 kills and also added four digs. Mandy Nichols added eight kills and six digs while Michelle Jantsch had a match-high 34 assists and a team-high 11 digs. Post hit .524 for the match while Nichols hit .381 and Post hit .321. Overall, Ohio had 45 kills to SEMO's 29 and out-hit the Redhawks, .320 to .076.
“We really wanted to get the ball to the middle in this match and Mij did a good job with that, Head Coach Ryan Theis said. "It was great to get 13,15,17 kills per set and then as a team hit .320. Individually, Katie was great and Sue averaged almost five kills a game while hitting a high percentage."
In the first set, Ohio grabbed six of the first seven points and jumped out to a 6-1 lead behind tw o kills from Post and one by Nichols. After SEMO cut the Ohio lead to 13-9 the Bobcats scored eight of the next ten points to grab their largest lead at 21-11. The Green & White would take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-15 win. Post and Jacobi finished with four kills while Nichols added three.
Jacobi had her best set of the match during the second stanza when she amassed seven kills and added a service ace. Trailing 22-20 and facing a tied match heading into the intermission, the Bobcats ran off five-straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. A Jacobi kill was followed by two SEMO attack errors and two Nichols' kills to close things out in favor of Ohio.
Post took over the third set for Ohio, finishing with seven kills, while Faith Robins played her best period of the match finishing with four kills. The Bobcats took their largest lead at 16-10 after a SEMO attack error and never let their opponents get within three points the rest of the way. As a team, the Green & White had their best hitting percentage of the day in the third set (.457).
"This was obviously an improvement over yesterday," Theis said. "We have to focus on continuing to get better because we have a real tough match tonight against Texas A&M."
