ATHENS, OH - The Ohio University Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams picked up their first victories of the season with wins over the University of Rio Grande at the Ohio University Golf Course.
Ohio earned a 15- 48 win on the men’s side and a 17-50 victory in the women’s race.
The Ohio men swept the top five spots in the race, with junior Scott Meyers posting a winning time of 15 minutes, 40.08 seconds.
Freshman Noah Hawkins made his Bobcat debut with a second-place finish, crossing the line just behind Meyers with a time of 15:40.62.
Sophomore Tyler Cantley, junior Chris Davis and sophomore Joey Cherico rounded out the top five for Ohio.
Senior Scott Wildermuth and Sophomore Matt Michno represented the remainder of Ohio’s scoring, finishing eighth and tenth overall.
Ohio’s win on the women’s side was buoyed by impressive performances from a group of newcomers.
Unattached runner Victoria Botticelli won the race with a time of 19 minutes, 28.62 seconds.
Melissa Thompson finished second overall, leading Ohio with a time of 19:36.84. Allison Stilwell and Lauran Felt took third and fourth overall, finishing within a half-second of each other.
Kelsey McAlpine finished sixth overall, scoring fourth for the Bobcats, while Erica Toussant rounded out the scoring for Ohio in eighth overall.
The Ohio men and women travel to Blacksburg, WV next Saturday, Sept. 17th, to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational.
