BLACKSBURG, Va.-The Ohio cross country teams posted superb efforts Friday evening as each squad picked up victories at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
Annie Beecham led the women's effort, taking first overall honors in a 16:14.11 mark over the 4,640 meter course. Kari Summers checked in at fourth (17:01.60), while Allison Stillwell (12th, 17:36.51), Emily Pifer (13th, 17:38.22), Lauren Fett (17:42.16) and Abigail Swift (16th, 17:48.43) all posted top-16 efforts. Hannah Charbel (20th, 18:00.62), Kristen Altenburger (21st, 18:02.25), Melissa Thompson (22nd, 18:02.82), Jackie Accurso (24th, 18:11.20) and Kelsey McAlpine (28th, 18:23.22) also posted impressive performances.
The Ohio women won the team competition with 24 points, followed by Virginia Tech (35), Concord (89), Lynchburg (97) and Bluefield State (152).
Ridge Robinson powered the men's effort with a sixth overall effort in 24:05.37, while Noah Howkins (9th 24:24.33) and Scott Meyers (11th, 24:31.34) also fared well. Joseph Cherico (18th, 25:01.71), Chris Davis (20th, 25:05.76), Tyler Cantley (22nd, 25:21.13), Chase Robinson (23rd, 25:29.35), Nick Hissrich (24th, 25:37.23) and Scott Wildermuth (27th, 25:43.49) rounded out the Ohio effort.
The Bobcat men also won their team title, posting a total of 27, which was just ahead of Virginia Tech's total of 30. Concord finished third with 77 points, while Lynchburg took fourth with a total of 103/
Both programs will be back in action Saturday at the Ohio Invitational in Athens.
