Athens, Ohio - The Ohio University women's golf team sits in a tie for ninth after the first day of competition at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic in Richmond, Kentucky.
The Bobcats started the day strong as sophomore Megan Weaver (Dublin, Ohio) shot an opening-round 73 which put her in a tie for first overall at +1. As a team, the 'Cats sat in a tie for seventh, just five strokes out of the top five. On the day, Ohio amassed nine birdies, six in the first round.
However, the afternoon session was unkind to Ohio as they lost 14 strokes from the first round. Erin Cahill (Hilliard, Ohio) and Jordan Fesh (Toledo, Ohio) led the Bobcats during the afternoon with individual rounds of 80 apiece. Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) and Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio finished with the third and fourth-highest cumulative scores for the Green and White.
Weaver was tied for the lead after the initial round with Susannah Grunden of Bowling Green and Megan McKinney of Murray State. Five players were one shot back in a tie for fourth. After two rounds, the new leaders are Chelsea Harris of Austin Peay and Anna Carling of Arkansas State. McKinney and three others are tied for third.
Memphis, Arkansas State and Morehead State are tied for the team lead after two rounds. The Tigers had a three-shot lead on Murray State after morning play and now the Racers sit in fifth place behind Toledo.
