ATHENS, Ohio - The Indiana Hoosiers (7-2) spoiled the Ohio volleyball team's bid for a fifth consecutive home-opening win by outlasting the Bobcats (5-2) for a 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12) win.
In the third set of the match, Ohio senior Ellen Herman (Toledo, Ohio) became the school's all-time leading attacker in the rally-scoring era by logging her 3,712th attempt. Herman finished the night with at total of 66 attempts, a tournament record. Herman's 26 kills on the evening was one shy of the tournament record, and her 29.0 points tied for second in tournament history, just 0.5 points behind her own record of 29.5 set against Tulane a season ago.
Junior outside hitter Sue Jacobi (Lousiville, Ky.) added 15 kills for the Bobcats and led the team with a .423 hitting percentage. Senior Sarah Petrulis (Westlake, Ohio) and junior Meryl Bender (Yorktown, Ind.) combined for 34 digs for Ohio.
Freshman outside hitter Jordan Haverly led the Hoosiers with 16 kills and a .255 hitting percentage, while sophomore setter Mary Chaudoin dished out 50 assists in the match.
