ATHENS, Ohio - Behind three-over-par performances from juniors Stewart Jamieson and Chad Warmbein, the Ohio University men's golf team charged into third place on the opening day of the Mid-American Conference Championship with a total of 593 (+17).
The Bobcats got off to a hot start on Thursday, shooting a seven-over 295 in the opening round to own a share of second place after holes, and followed up with a 298 (+10) in the afternoon session.
Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) and Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) signed their cards with totals of 147 (+3) on Thursday to form half of a four-way tie for seventh after the opening day of play. Jamieson opened the day with a one-over 73 and carded a second-round 74 (+2), rolling in two birdies on each trip around the course, while Warmbein rebounded from a first-round 75 (+3) with an even-par 72 in the second round that featured three birdies and an eagle.
Freshman John Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) rode an even-par effort in the first round to a five-over 149 for the day to earn a share of 18th place following 18 holes of play, while sophomore Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) fired rounds of 77 (+5) and 75 (+3) to finish day one in a tie for 25th with a score of 152 (+8). Junior Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) rounded out the Ohio lineup on Thursday with a nine-over 153.
The third round of the MAC Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. ET tomorrow at Brickyard Crossing, with the Bobcats slated to play in threesomes with Kent State and Eastern Michigan.
