UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

Results through round two

The Ohio University women’s golf team shot a 36-hole total of 631 (+55) on Saturday at the Penn State Invitational to hold a share of ninth place at the end of the first day of competition. The Bobcats are part of a tightly-bunched group in the middle of the field, as only nine shots separate the fifth through ninth places on the leader board.

“We worked really well as a team today, and picked each other up when there were struggles,” Ohio head coach Kelly Ovington said. “It rained all day yesterday, so conditions were tough, especially on the greens, but we adapted well and never let it affect us. We’ll take some confidence from today into tomorrow’s round. If we can shave a few strokes off of our round tomorrow, there’s a good chance we can move up in the team standings.”

Sophomore Erin Cahill (Hilliard, Ohio) leads the Green & White in the individual standings after firing a two-round total of 154 (+10), good for a share of 17th place. She opened the day with a first-round 75 (+3), just one stroke off of her career best. Much like the team race, Cahill is in a tight battle, as only four shots separate the group tied in 17th place from the two players tied for fourth after the first two rounds.

Junior Megan Curran (Dublin, Ohio) used a career-best 75 â€" bettering her previous low round by six strokes â€" in the second round to finish the day in a tie for 25th with a total of 155 (+11), while sophomore Jordan Fesh (Toledo, Ohio) equaled her career low with a second-round 77 on the way to a total of 158 (+14), which tied her for 40th place after two rounds. Senior Lindsay Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) and junior Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) stand in ties for 56th and 59th, respectively, after carding scores of 165 (+21) and 166 (+22) on Saturday.

“We’re very proud of Megan Curran right now,” Ovington said. “We needed her to have a big day, and she brought her ‘A’ game. That was definitely a great day for her.”

Ohio will wrap up its season opener on Sunday with the final 18 holes of the Penn State Invitational. Tee times for the final round are schedule for 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. ET.
