NASHPORT, Ohio - The Ohio men's golf team finished seventh at the MAC Championships on Sunday at the Longaberger Golf Club with a total team score of 1207 over four rounds. Sophomore Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) finished tied for 10th, the highest place by any Bobcat at the tournament.
The host Eagles of Eastern Michigan took first place with a round-round team score of 1171, just one stroke ahead of Kent State's 1172 in second place. Ball State took third, Toledo finished fourth, Akron placed fifth and Miami's 1206 was just one stroke better than the Bobcats for sixth place. Behind the 'Cats were Bowling Green in eighth and Northern Illinois in ninth.
Gusweiler shot a nine-over-par 297 through four round with his best single round stroke total of 70 coming in the first round. He shot a 79 on Sunday in the final round on the par 72 course. Gusweiler tied for first amongst the 45 competitors in par-3 scoring, averaging 3.13 strokes on the short holes over all four rounds. He also shot 45 pars and 10 birdies.
Next best for the Bobcats was James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) who finished with a sixteen-over 304 good for a tie at 21st. The junior finished tied for second at the tournament with 15 birdies and tied for third with an average score of 4.63 on par-5s.
Behind Ellis was his teammate Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) who 18-over after four rounds with a 306, tying him for 24th. Warmbein, like Gusweiler, finished with 45 pars on the tournament.
Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) and Mark Reinhold (Cincinnati, Ohio) both shot a 24-over 312 at the MAC Tournament, finishing tied for 35th. Reinhold tallied the Bobcats' lone eagle of the tournament and one of nine total.
Toledo's Ciaran McAleavey took first place individually to win the MAC title with a two-under 286 after four rounds. He shot a four-under 68 in his final round, the lowest 18-hole score of the tournament, to snatch the title away from Eastern Michigan's Peter Sauerbrei, who finished one stroke back of the leader with a one-under 287. They were the only competitors to finish under par for the four rounds.
