HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Ohio men's golf squad nearly finished two rounds at the Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club, but snow forced the final holes to be suspended until Saturday.
With only 18 holes official on Friday, the Bobcat men are tied with William and Mary for 10th place in the tournament's 16-team field with a 293 team score. Ball State recorded a 282 for the first round lead, three strokes ahead of Penn State.
Freshman Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) led the charge for the Bobcats in the first round. His minus-1 70 had him tied for seventh among the tournament's 92 competitors after 18 holes.
Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) shot a two-over 73 in the first round to sit in a tie for 26th. Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio) was one stroke behind him with a 74, and in a tie for 38th.
Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) and Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) rounded out Ohio's team card with 76s, which have them tied for 55th.
Competing as an individual, James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) recorded a 78 in the first round to tie for 72nd.
Marquette's Mike Van Sickle and Penn State's Kevin Foley shared the individual lead after the first round with three-under 68s.
The tournament field will attempt to close out the second round starting Saturday at 9 a.m. Saturday's scheduled final round will then commence immediately following, weather permitting.
