RICHMOND, Ky. - The Ohio women's golf squad completed its participation in the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational Friday by placing sixth out of 12 teams in the event.

For the second day in a row, the tournament field battled winds and temperatures in the 30s. Even more unfavorable conditions prompted the tournament officials to forgo Saturday's scheduled final round and make the 36-hole results final.

Following a 339 in Thursday's first round, the Ohio women strung together a 323 in Friday's 18 holes to move up from ninth place to sixth with a 662 total. The Bobcats' 323 was the second-best team round in the two-day tournament. Eastern Michigan took home the team title with a 662 composite.

"The girls really came back today," Ohio Assistant Director of Golf Jeff Hetler said. "The weather was just as bad, and the course was just as tough [as it was on Thursday]. The wind made that course play so hard.

Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) was Ohio's top finisher in the tournament with a 162, good enough for 10th place among the 75 in the field. She shaved four strokes off her first-round score with a 79 on Friday.

Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) finished second on Ohio's card with a 36-hole total of 164 to tie for 14th place. On Friday she matched her first round score with an 82.

Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) recorded a 79 on Friday - the best round of the day for an Ohio golfer. She wrapped up her tournament with a 164 to tie with teammate Siefke for 14th.

"Kristen [Mautz] really just tried to focus on one shot at a time, and it really helped her because she played great," Hetler said. "That's the first time I've seen her focus that much and get it right, and I think that's going to give her confidence as we work toward the MACs."

Lindsay Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) closed out Ohio's card with a 36-hole total of 173 to tie for 51st. Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) also competed in the field and shot a 178 in the two-day event. She finished tied for 62nd.

"The girls really focused today and played well as a whole," Hetler said. "There were only seven scores in the 70s today, and we were the only team with two scores in the 70s."

Tennessee Tech's Madison Denman captured the individual medal with a 151.

The Ohio women's will next be in action at the Bowling Green Invitational, April 16-17.
