KALAMAZOO, Ohio - The Ohio softball team lost game one, 1-0, of a two-game weekend series at Western Michigan on Saturday.

Both teams were scoreless in the first six innings until Western Michigan (18-18, 10-7 MAC) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 1-0 victory.

The Bobcats (21-26, 8-9 MAC) outhit the Broncos 8-3 and left nine players on base, while the Broncos left four on base.

"We had some great individual efforts today," said Head Coach Jill Matyuch. "However, we drifted away from our strength and our commitment to the little things. Hopefully, we can rebound and come back as cohesively as we generally are. This is a game of momentum and we depend on one another."

Debbie Szalejko (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.) went 2-for-4 in the game. With the hits, Szalejko extended her hitting streak to ten games.

Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.), Kristen Salvatore (Kirtland, Ohio), Amanda Sacks (Chugiak, Alaska) and Alicia Catlette (Mogadore, Ohio) each had a hit.

Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) pitched a complete game in taking the loss for Ohio. Sauter (14-10) allowed only one run on three hits and struck out three batters. Kyla Sullivan picked up the win for the Broncos, allowing eight hits and striking out just one batter.

The teams complete the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
