BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Following Tuesday's final round, the Ohio women's golf team tied with Ball State for fifth place at the Falcon Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green.
With playing conditions much improved on Tuesday following cold temperatures and high winds during 36 holes on Monday, the Bobcats shot a 320 in the final round at Stone Ridge Golf Course to finish with a three-round composite score of 1021.
Tied for the individual lead after 36 holes on Monday, Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) vied for her first career tournament victory, but came up four strokes short as she was bested by Cincinnati's Hillery Wilson 73-77 on Tuesday. Waterson's total of 239 was good enough for second place among the 69 individuals that completed the tournament, the best finish of her career.
Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) also turned in the best tournament finish of her career when she finished in a tie for eighth with a 250. She shot a 78 in Tuesday's final round, her second-lowest score this year.
Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) had one of her better outings of the season and finished third on Ohio's team card, and tied for 33rd overall. She shot an 81 on Tuesday and finished with a 54-hole total of 264.
Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) and Lindsay Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) both shot 84s on Tuesday to finish tied for 46th and 53rd, respectively. Siefke recorded a 269 in the three-round event while Bergman shot a 275.
Also on Ohio's card, Megan Curran (Dublin, Ohio) shot a 91 on Tuesday and finished 56th overall with a three-round total of 279.
Competing as individuals, Lauren Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) and Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) also had good performances. Bergman finished with a 262 to take home 29th place, the best tournament finish of her career. Lienesch shot a 265 to record the highest finish of her career at 35th.
Toledo took home the team title with a 311, 11 strokes ahead of Marshall. The tie for fifth marked Ohio's best finish in three outings this spring.
Waterston's second place finish was the best by an Ohio golfer since Julie Tomlinson was the runner-up at the Wachovia-Great Smokies Invitational on Oct. 1-2, 2005.
The Ohio women will next be in action this Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, at the Lady Buckeyes Spring Invitational in Columbus.
