COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio men's golf squad finished 14th at the Kepler Intercollegiate as the tournament's final round was cancelled on Sunday due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Competing in the 16-team tournament, hosted by Ohio State, the Bobcats were in 10th place following Saturday's first round, but slipped four slots in the team standings by the time the tournament was called after 36 holes. Ohio finished with a composite team score of 640.
Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) led the Ohio effort with a 36-hole score of 155, which placed him in a tie for 32nd overall among the 90 competitors in the field. After posting a 76 in the first round, he recorded 79 in the second. Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who was tied for 21st after 18 holes with a 75, shot an 81 in the second round to slip to 36th overall with a plus-14 156.
Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) and Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) both saw their scores elevate in the second round as well. Warmbein followed his first-round 81 with an 86 in the second to finish tied for 81st with a 167. Christman recorded an 85 in the second round, two strokes higher than his first round score, and finished tied for 82nd with a 168.
The second round was most unkind to Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio), however. After a 77 in the first 18 holes, he shot a 96 in the second round and finished 88th with a 173.
Competing as an individual, Ohio's Jason Ferrante (Dublin, Ohio) was tied for 79th after the first round with an 83, but bounced back in the second round to post a team-best 78 and wound up tied for 53rd with a 161. The 78 was the best round of his career.
Louisville maintained its first round lead and captured the tournament team title with a 591 total, nine strokes ahead of Michigan State. MSU's Matt Harmon earned the individual medal with an even 142 in the 36-hole event.
Play was suspended around 2 p.m., Saturday due to adverse weather conditions with the field anywhere between six and nine holes into the second round. The second round resumed Sunday morning and the tournament's scheduled final round was cancelled after completion of the second.
