The Ohio men's and women's golf squads completed their first tournament action of the spring season this weekend at the Mission Inn Collegiate Invitational and the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, respectively.
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Playing at the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn, the Ohio men's golf squad compiled a three round score of 907 and finished 14th place out of 16 teams.
Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) shot a 73 on Sunday to finish with a three-round total of 220 and a tie for 22nd place in the field of 87 players. Mark Phillips' (Hilliard, Ohio) recorded a 77 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 37th place with a 54-hole total of 225.
Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) turned in a 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 57th with a 231 total and was followed by Ryan Siekmann's (Dublin, Ohio) 234 total - including a 79 on Sunday - which placed him in a tie for 69th.
Blake Russell (Dublin, Ohio) rounded out Ohio's line-up with a three-round 241, including an 87 on Sunday.
Marquette's Mike VanSickle took home the individual title with a four-under 216 while Louisville captured the team title at 860, 14 strokes ahead of UNC Greensboro.
The Ohio men will next participate in the Hawai'i Invitational on March 16-17.
RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Ohio women's golf team completed their participation in the three-day tournament with a 17th place finish among 18 teams with a 947 team total.
Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) finished in a tie for 43rd with a 232 composite after recording a 77 in Sunday's final round.
After shooting an 82 and an 83 in her first two rounds, Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) posted a career-best - and an Ohio tournament best - 72 on Sunday to move up to second on the Bobcats' weekend scorecard with a 237 to tie for 65th.
Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) turned in an 81 on Sunday to bring her three-day total to tie with teammate Siefke for 65th.
Lindsay Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) and Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) each shot 87s on Sunday as Bergman compiled a 251 to tie for 97th in the tournament while Stafford was one stroke behind in a tie for 100th.
Colleen Lienesch (Centerville,Ohio), competing as an individual, shot a career-best 81 on Sunday and finished with a 253 composite at 102nd.
Baylor's Allison Martin took the individual titled with a four-under 212 and helped the Bears to the team title with a composite 886, three strokes ahead of Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Ohio women will next be in action at the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational, March 5-7.
