Bobcat Golf Teams Compete in Respective Tourneys

The Ohio men's golf squad opened its 2007 spring season with 36 holes at the Mission Inn Collegiate Invitational and the Bobcat women's team played second round at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational Saturday.

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Bobcat men turned in their first two rounds of the spring while competing in the 16-team invitational northwest of Orlando on the par-72, 6,923-yard El Campeon Course. The Bobcats shot a 296 in the first round and followed that with a 306 in the second to sit in 14th place out of 16 teams.

Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had the best day among Ohio's contingent with a three-over 147, which has him tied for 25th place in the field of 87 players. Mark Phillips' (Hilliard, Ohio) is just one stroke behind Cimarolli with a 148, which has him tied for 28th place.

Blake Russell (Dublin, Ohio) is tied for 60th through two rounds with a 154 while Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) and Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) are tied for 62nd with 155s.

Marquette's Mike VanSickle was the leader in the clubhouse on Saturday with a 138 while Louisville has the team lead with a 567, 13 strokes ahead of UNC Greensboro.

The Ohio men will conclude their participation in the Mission Inn Invite tomorrow with 18 holes with a shotgun start on at 8 a.m.

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - In the second of the three-day Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, the Ohio women slid a spot to 17th among the 18 teams participating in the event with a two-day cumulative score of 636.

Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) is in a tie for 48th place overall with a 77 on Saturday to move her two-day total to 155. Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) is just one stroke behind Mautz in the 36-hole standings with a 156, which has her tied for 55th.

Lindsay Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) is tied for 92nd with a 164 while Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) are tied for 94th with 165s.

Colleen Lienesch (Centerville,Ohio), competing as an individual, has posted a 172 through two rounds.

Baylor's Allison Martin maintains the overall individual lead with a three-under 141. Toledo has the team lead at 587, two strokes ahead of Baylor.

The tournament's final round will commence with a shotgun start on Sunday at 8 a.m. (MT).
