RICHMOND, Ky. - The Ohio women's golfers placed sixth out of 14 teams at the EKU Spring Invitational on Saturday after posting a final round score of 331. The Bobcats were led by seniors Julie Tomlinson and Ana Brown, who both finished in the top 20.
Tomlinson (Noblesville, Ind.) tied for 18th with a 54-hole score of 242 (81-80-81) and Brown (West Chester, Ohio) tied for 20th just one stroke back at 243 (81-81-81).
With a three-round mark of 245 (81-81-83), Ohio junior Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) tied for 24th out of 86 individual competitors while Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) tied for 36th at 251 (79-86-86) and Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) tied for 73rd with a 263 (86-89-88).
Toledo won the three-day event by 30 strokes with a team score of 922 (299-308-315). Eastern Michigan took runner-up honors at 952 (315-319-318) while host Eastern Kentucky finished third with a 959 (316-324-319) and Tennessee Tech and Ball State both tied for fourth at 977.
The Bobcats' score of 981 (322-328-331) placed them sixth, ahead of Oakland, Western Kentucky, Northern Colorado, Murray State, Austin Peay State, Marshall, West Georgia and Tennessee State.
Toledo's Tammy Clelland won individual medalist honors with an eight-over-par score of 224 (74-72-78) on the 5,817-yard, par-72 course. Eastern Michigan's Catherine Fortin finished second at 227 (77-77-73).
Ohio will play in just one more tournament - the Rocket Spring Classic in Delaware, Ohio, on April 17-18 - before completing its regular season at the April 28-30 Mid-American Conference Championships in Indian Springs, Ohio.
