HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With back-to-back rounds of 297 on Friday, the Ohio men's golf squad is tied for ninth out of 15 teams at the Marshall Invitational at the Guyan Golf and Country Club.
Brian Bickle (Gallipolis, Ohio) and Jon Johasky (Lower Burrell, Pa.) lead the way for the Bobcats as both seniors posted a pair of 73-stroke rounds to tie for 13th out of 84 competitors after the first day of the tournament.
Ohio junior Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) is tied for 54th with a 36-hole score of 152 (78-74) while senior Brian Elsea (Columbus, Ohio) and junior Mark Cimarolli are both tied for 61st at 153. Playing as an individual and not affecting the team score is sophomore Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio), who is also tied for 61st with a 153 (80-73).
Eastern Michigan leads the tournament with a two-round score of 579 (294-285) on the 6,476-yard, par-71 course. Akron is in second just four strokes back while event host Marshall is third at 585 (296-289).
In the individual competition, Eastern Michigan's Chris Ross is out in front with a 141 (71-70), two strokes ahead of Iowa's Brian DeBuhr and Marshall's Nathan Kinker. Akron's Ryan Gutowski provided the highlight of the day with a hole-in-one during the second round. The sophomore from Copley, Ohio, used a nine iron to ace the par-3 sixth hole for the first hole-in-one of his career.
Saturday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. Final results will be posted at ohiobobcats.com as soon as they are available.
