MUNCIE/FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Ohio men's and women's golf squads each turned in two rounds of golf on Monday as they competed in their respective tournaments. The Bobcat men are tied for sixth at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational while the women competed at The Shootout at The Legends.
Playing at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie, the Ohio men's golfers turned in a two-round score of 576, which has them tied for sixth place out of 17 teams in the standings with IUPUI and Wright State. Detroit is in first place with an even 560.
Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) has paced the Bobcats through 36 holes with a two-under 138, marking the first time this fall that an Ohio golfer has been below par after two rounds. He will enter the final round tied for third place in the individual standings, just two strokes off the lead after he turned in rounds of 72 and 66.
James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) is tied for 53rd with a 148 while Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) and Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) are both tied for 61st with scores of 150. In his first action of the fall season, Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio) also turned in a 150 to tie with two of his teammates.
Eastern Kentucky's Shaun McConnell is the leader in the clubhouse after 36 holes with a four-under 136.
Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley did not make the trip with the team following the passing of his father.
On the women's side, the Bobcats did not fare as well in their two rounds as their male counterparts. Complete team and individual scores from the 18-team tournament are not currently available.
Playing at The Legends of Indiana Golf Club in Franklin, Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) led the way for the Bobcat women on the first day of the tournament with a 155 and Shanna Siefke (Toledo, Ohio) followed right behind with a 156.
Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) each turned in cards of 159 while Lindsay Bergman (Blacklick, Ohio) rounded out the Bobcat lineup with 173.
The women's round totals of 316 and 313 were their best of the fall.
"It's good that we are improving," Ohio Assistant Coach Jeff Hetler said. "We see where we need to be, we're just not there yet."
Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m., for the women on Tuesday while the men's are to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
