ATHENS, Ohio ? In a contest that was started three hours after it was originally scheduled to due to rain, Ohio left fielder Brian White (Frankfort, Ohio) decided everyone had been at the park long enough. The senior took a 3-and-1 pitch over the left field wall with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Ohio a 6-5 victory over Miami in the series finale Sunday evening at Bob Wren Stadium.

After Miami (11-10, 2-1 MAC) knotted the score at 5-5 with a tally in the top of the eighth, neither team was able to break through in their next two at-bats heading into the home half of the 10th. Leading off for the Bobcats (4-12, 1-2 MAC), Ben Crabtree (Roxbury, Conn.) grounded out to the shortstop. Then, with a hitter?s count, Miami left fielder Ryne Robinson could only watch as White hit a line shot that cleared the wall to give Ohio a 6-5 victory.

White finished 2-for-5 on the day and 5-for-14 with two home runs in the three-game series. Bobcat right hander Dan O?Rourke (Monongahela, Pa.) (1-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on four Miami hits to earn the victory.

For the second time in the three-game series, Miami jumped out to an early lead. The RedHawks managed three runs on four hits in the top of the first off of Ohio?s Anthony Gressick (Lancaster, Ohio). The Bobcat starter settled in after that, however, and didn?t allow another Miami run before he was relieved with two runners on in the fifth.

The Bobcats got on the board with two runs in the home half of the fifth. Jared Willis (Logan W.Va.) singled to get things going and Jon Vondrell (Centerville, Ohio) followed with a deep drive to the right centerfield gap to bring Willis all the way around from first for Ohio?s first tally of the day. Two batters later, Vondrell came home from third as Phil Sabatini (Oakmont, Pa.) reached on a fielder?s choice to cut the Miami lead to 3-2.

After Miami added a run in the sixth, Ohio sent eight batters to the plate in the seventh and took their first lead of the day. Dusty Hammond (Bellefontaine, Ohio) and Matt Stiffler (Bellbrook, Ohio) each drew walks to start the inning and Bryant Witt (Powell, Ohio) reached on an error to load the bases. Willie Walker (Marysville, Ohio) then singled through the right side to score Hammond and make it 4-3. After back-to-back strikeouts, Gressick drove a single to left field over the head of the RedHawk shortstop to bring home Stiffler and Witt for a 5-4 Bobcat lead.

The RedHawks were able to plate a runner in their half of the eighth to tie things up at 5-5. Evan Armitage reached on a fielder?s choice with the bases loaded to score Robinson, but O?Rourke struck out Miami pinch hitter Brian Canada to end the threat.

The victory ended a seven-game slide for Ohio, which last won on March 5th at UNC Greensboro. It also broke a three-game losing streak to MAC East Division rival Miami.

Gressick went a 2-for-5 with two RBIs at the plate for Ohio and finished on the mound with three earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Witt added a 2-for-2 performance with a walk.

John Ely (2-1) took the loss for the RedHawks after throwing 3 1/3 innings in relief.

The Bobcats will host Cleveland State Tuesday evening with a 6 p.m., first pitch before traveling to Cincinnati Wednesday afternoon for a 4 p.m., start.
