Bob Wren captained Ohio’s baseball team in 1943 and was a member of the great 1941 Ohio basketball team. During that season, they finished runner-up in the National Invitation Tournament. The 1941 baseball team won 11 in a row on the way to the Buckeye Conference Championship after losing their first five games. He played six years of professional baseball in the Old St. Louis Browns organization. While at Toledo, he was the leading second baseman in fielding in 1947. He then returned to Ohio University in 1949 as assistant coach in football/ basketball and was the head coach for baseball. His coaching record was one of the best collegiate ranks with 339 wins, 120 losses, and 2 ties. He won seven MAC Conference Baseball Championship and had 38 players end up in the professional baseball ranks. He had nine All-Americans play for him at Ohio University. The baseball field at Ohio University is currently named after him.
