ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey (2-3) team returned home to Pruitt Field on Sunday (Sept. 13) to face off against Davidson (4-3), falling by a final score of 2-1.

Overall, Ohio scored one goal on four shots with two coming on goal, while taking three penalty corners throughout the game. Davidson scored two goals on 15 shots with nine coming on goal, while taking four penalty corners.

Individually, junior Mia Scheulen (St. Louis, Mo.) had one shot with the shot coming on goal, and sophomore Ava Florence (Louisville, Ky.) had one goal with one shot on goal in the game. Junior Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) had one shot, assisted on the goal, and had one defensive save.

In goal, junior Molly Schreiner (State College, Pa.) got the start and allowed two goals, while notching six saves in over 58 minutes of work.

Davidson logged just one penalty corner in the first period, but it was stopped by the Ohio defense. The Bobcats had a penalty corner late in the first period, and the ball found the back of the goal, but the goal was called off, sending the game into the second period with a scoreless tie.

The Wildcats started to apply pressure in the second half, earning two penalty corners and taking six shots in the period, but the Ohio defense was able to hold strong and keep its opponent from breaking the scoreless tie, sending it to the half scoreless.

After an early shot to start the third period Davidson broke through and scored the first goal of the game. The Wildcats stayed aggressive and found the back of the net again in the third period, taking a 2-0 lead off a penalty shot.

In the fourth period, Ohio started to show some energy on attack, getting into Davidson's half and putting some shots up.

Late in the fourth period, Ohio scored its first goal of the game from a penalty corner, with Florence getting Ohio on the board with an assist from James.

The Bobcats pulled their goalie for another forward following the goal and made one final push to tie the game, but the final whistle blew, ending the game at 2-1 in favor of Davidson.
