
Ohio Volleyball Concludes Weekend with Loss to #4 Stanford

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Ohio volleyball team (4-4, 0-0 MAC) fell 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 16-25) to #4 Stanford (5-2, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Ohio finished with 36 kills, three aces, one block, 35 assists and 26 digs. Stanford finished with 39 kills, five aces, eight blocks, 36 assists and 30 digs.

Sophomore Cienna Lapsley (Columbia City, Ind.) recorded a team-best .385 attack percentage with six kills and one error on 13 total attacks. Freshman Rose Mahin (Franklin, Ind.) and sophomore Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) led the team in kills with seven each. Mahin and Blair also combined for 15.5 points.

Sophomore Lillie Meinhart distributed a team-high 17 assists while junior Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) added 14 assists. Janke also recorded a team-high seven digs. Mahin and junior Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined for seven digs total. At the net, senior Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) and Blair finished with one block each.

Ohio got off to a strong start in the first set. After being down 7-4, Ohio began to close in on Stanford's lead. Back-to-back kills by Mahin tied the set at 7-7 and then gave the Bobcats an 8-7 lead. A surge of offensive pressure by Ohio extended the Bobcats' lead to 13-10. It was a very close set between Ohio and Stanford. The two teams traded points back-and-forth until Stanford gained an 18-17 advantage over Ohio. The Cardinals went on a 7-1 scoring run to win the set 25-18 and earn an early 1-0 lead over the Bobcats.

Despite being down 1-0, Ohio bounced back quickly in the second set. The Bobcats' offensive success early on in the set gave them a 10-5 lead over the Cardinals. The momentum shifted halfway through after Stanford tied the set 15-15 and eventually took a 17-15 lead. Ohio fought to take back the lead but were unable to subdue Stanford's offense. The Cardinals continued on a 7-0 scoring run, winning the set 25-17 and taking a 2-0 lead over the Bobcats.

Stanford dominated majority of the third set. The Cardinals earned a 25-16 win in the third, defeating Ohio 3-0.

The Bobcats will be back in action as they prepare to host their Bobcat Invitational presented by AthensOhio.com on Sept. 18-19 in the Convocation Center. Ohio will play three games, starting with its home opener against Morgan State on Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. ET. 2026 Ohio volleyball schedule posters will be available for fans.
