Bill Hess was a varsity football player and wrestler at Ohio University during his undergraduate days and became his university's 22nd head football coach in January of 1958. In the 11 years he coached, he produced two undefeated teams. His 1960 squad was named "National College Champions" and his 1968 team accorded top 20 status in both the final Associated Press and United Press International polls, accomplishing a first for any Mid-American Conference football team. Hess’ 11-year coaching record here is 67 wins, 40 losses and 2 ties, including four MAC grid titles. He's been "Ohio College Coach of the Year' twice in 1960 and 1968.
