Chelsea Welch

Chelsea Welch joined the Ohio women’s basketball staff in July 2022 as an Assistant Coach. While on staff, Ohio has produced five players who have received All-MAC honors.
 
In 2024-25, Welch helped Watkins become an All-MAC Third Team honoree. Welch and the rest of the staff helped the Bobcats achieve several individual milestones this season. Head coach Bob Boldon earned his 200th win at Ohio and Watkins achieved the 1,000 point milestone.

2023-24 saw Welch help three Bobcats earn All-MAC honors. Jaya McClure and Kennedi Watkins were named All-MAC honorable mention and Bailey Tabeling was selected for the MAC All-Freshman team. At the end of the season, Tabeling ranked 24th in the nation for three-point percentage. Jackson also helped Ohio make its return to the MAC tournament as the No. 7 seed. Ohio concluded the season with a 11-19 overall record.
 
In 2022-23, Welch helped Ohio place two players on the All-MAC teams, with Yaya Felder making the second team and Jaya McClure earning a spot on the All-Freshman team.
 
Prior to Ohio, Welch served as a graduate assistant coach at St. Lawrence University in 2019-20 and was part of the group that earned the Coaching Staff of the Year honor. During her time at St. Lawrence, Welch helped the team place third in the Liberty League and coached two players that earned first team and second team All-Conference honors. Welch was responsible for creating strength & conditioning weight programs, nationwide recruiting and tracking academics.
 
Welch played collegiately at Wright State University, where she accumulated many awards and honors including being named the 2018 Horizon Player of the Year. Following her successful collegiate career, Welch played professionally in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal in 2018-19. She was named Import Player of the Year and led the conference in scoring.
 
Welch earned her bachelor’s degree from Wright State University in 2018. She earned a master's degree in sport management from Wright State University in 2018. Welch earned a second master's degree in educational leadership from St. Lawrence Univeristy in 2021.
 
Welch resides in Athens.
