After being a staple on Ohio's defensive line from 2009-12, Tremayne Scott joined the Bobcats' coaching staff in 2018 as the Defensive Tackles Coach. He was promoted to Defensive Line Coach and assumed the responsibilities of the Running Game Coordinator in spring 2024.
The 2024 season capped off another historic season for the Bobcats, marking the program's first 11-win season, sixth consecutive bowl victory and their first Mid-American Conference Championship win since 1968. In the MAC Championship against Miami (Ohio), Hauser's defense held the RedHawks to just three points, marking the first time a team hasn't scored a touchdown in the MAC Championship as well as the largest margin of victory (38-3).
The 2023 defense played a crucial role in the team's 10-win season, finishing the season No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference and No. 4 in FBS football. Notably, the defense held Power 5 opponent to only seven points (Sept. 16), Western Michigan (Oct. 21) to their lowest number of rushing yards in the season (79) and set the program record for the most turnovers forced in a bowl game (5) at the 2023 Myrtle Beach Bowl. Under Scott's guidance, defensive tackle Rayyan Buell earned All-MAC Third Team accolades.
Ohio's 2022 defense aided the Bobcats in a seven-game winning streak against MAC opponents, finishing second in the conference in points allowed per game (21.1), less than a quarter of a point behind the leader. Under Scott's guidance, 2022 graduate Kai Caesar signed as an undrafted free agent for the Baltimore Ravens (April 29).
In his first season on Ohio's staff, the Bobcats won nine games and posted the first shutout by a Mid-American Conference program in a bowl victory as the Bobcats blanked San Diego State, 27-0, in the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl. Redshirt senior defensive tackle Kent Berger ranked second on the team with five sacks in his final season at Ohio under Scott's watch.
Scott returned to Ohio after coaching the last two seasons at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. During his time at Carthage, Scott oversaw the coaching of four All-Conference players, including three first team selections. Carthage College's defense racked up 26 sacks and held their opponents to just 91.6 rushing yards per game and 17.4 points per game en route to a 7-3 record in 2017. In 2016, Carthage posted a 7-3 record and held their opponents to just 76.9 rushing yards per game with 26 sacks and 79 tackles for loss.
Scott played in 35 games on the defensive line for the Bobcats from 2009-12, registering 71.5 tackles, 7.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and one interception. During his playing career, Ohio won 36 games, two MAC East Division titles and won the first two bowl games in program history with back-to-back wins in his final two seasons. Following his junior season, Scott received recognition as an All-MAC Second Team and collegesportsmadness.com All-MAC Third Team selection and was named to the College Football Performance Awards Defensive Lineman Trophy Watch List prior to his senior year. Scott was named the 2012 Advocare V100 Independence Bowl Defensive Player of the Game as the Bobcats rolled to 45-14 victory over ULM in his final game at Ohio.
After his college career, Scott was invited to the Dallas Cowboys' rookie minicamp in May of 2013.
Scott spent a season working with the Bobcats as an intern in the football operations office and then spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the defensive line before taking the job at Carthage College.
A native of Ocala, Fla., Scott graduated from Ohio with a bachelor's degree in education and human services with a major in recreation management in 2012 before beginning his master's degree in recreation and sport science in 2014.
Scott and his wife, Tiffany, have four children; Tremayne Jr., Lilliana, Braylon and Soraya.
