Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Ohio field hockey team (2-2 overall) played the second leg of its North Carolina road trip against No. 7 Wake Forest (2-1 overall) on Sunday (Sept. 6), falling 6-1.

Overall, Ohio scored one goal on three shots with two on goal, while Wake Forest scored six goals on 43 shots with 22 on goal. Wake Forest also took 10 penalty corners compared to Ohio's three.

Junior Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) led the way for the Bobcats, scoring the game's opening goal from a penalty corner to notch her third goal of the season. She also took two other shots, with one coming on goal. Junior Marie De Grande (Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium) and senior Natalie LaFleur (Fredericksburg, Va.) both assisted on the goal

In goal, junior Molly Schreiner (State College, Pa.) got the start in goal, making 14 saves throughout the game.

Ohio started the game fast, earning the first penalty corner of the game after about five minutes of action had gone by in the first period.

LaFleur whipped the ball into De Grande, who set it up perfectly for James, who fired a shot that deflected off a Demon Deacon and the post before going in.

The goal gave Ohio an early 1-0 lead, a lead it would keep for the rest of the period despite Wake Forest getting some shots up. Schreiner made three total saves in the first period.

Ohio earned two more penalty corners in the second period, with James again getting up a shot, but it was blocked.

Defensively, Ohio held up well in the first half of the game, with Wake Forest scoring its first goal of the game to tie it up before heading into halftime.

The Demon Deacons came out of the break and got things going on offense. They earned a penalty corner that turned into a goal before scoring again less than a minute later.

Schreiner went on to make three more huge saves, with two coming on penalty corners before Wake Forest found the net again for its fourth goal of the game. The Demon Deacons went on to score two more goals before the clock hit zero, giving Ohio its first road loss of the season.

The Bobcats will return to action next Sunday, Sept. 13, at home on Pruitt Field when they host Davidson for Alumni Weekend. The first touch is set for Noon ET, and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
