Ohio Soccer Falls to UMass

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio soccer team (3-5-0, 0-2-0 MAC) fell to a 2-0 loss against University of Massachusetts (8-1-0, 2-0-0 MAC) on Sunday (Sep. 20).

Overall, Ohio recorded 16 shots with seven on goal, while UMass scored two goals from 16 shots in total and nine on goal. Ohio had seven corners against UMass' three.

Both teams started aggressively trying to take the initiative and lay down their mark. It was a high intensity affair with both teams creating chances and trading shots. Before half time, UMass took the lead after a well taken corner kick was put in the back of the net by one of its charismatic forwards. The game continued at a high pace until half time.

At half time, both teams had recorded 7 shots, and had 2 corners with UMass holding a one goal advantage.

In the second half, the Bobcats started on the front foot, trying their best to find an equalizer and get back into the game. However, it just never was to be as UMass converted a penalty towards the end of the game to make it 2-0 on the day, condemning Ohio to another loss after the final whistle went.

In goal, freshman Ayla Rammel (Englewood, Ohio) got the start. She conceded two goals and made seven saves across the 90 minutes.
