ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio softball third baseman senior
Shelby Westler was named the D1Softball Mid-Major Player of the Week for her performance the week of April 6.
Westler (Marion, Ohio) led the Ohio softball team this past week. In six games at third base, Westler hit .440 with 11 hits in 25 at bats. She scored three runs, had four doubles, three home runs, a grand slam and had 19 RBI. She recorded a 1.400 OPS as well as a .960 slugging percentage and a .440 on base percentage. She recorded 24 total bases and, in the field, recorded six putouts, seven assists and did not record an error for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Westler's week began on April 7 at Miami, where she went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Ohio's 5-3 come-from-behind win. She was back in action in the first game of the day on April 8 where she could not be stopped. Overall, Westler went 3-for-5 with a double, home run, and a first inning grand slam. She also scored a run and recorded nine RBI in Ohio's win. She wrapped up her Wednesday with another two-hit performance against the RedHawks, recording two doubles and registering three RBI.
Westler was back in action on Saturday, April 11 against Bowling Green. In Ohio's 9-3 win, Westler went 1-for-4 with a home run, RBI and a run scored. She then concluded her weekend on Sunday, scoring 3-for-4 with a double, home run, run scored and five RBI in the 9-1 six-inning win.
Westler and the rest of the Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, April 15 when the Bobcats host Marshall. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. ET at the Ohio Softball Field and can be seen on ESPN+.
