CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio softball team (11-6) returned to action on Saturday (Feb. 28) for the second day of the 2026 Governors Classic hosted by Austin Peay. The Bobcats dropped the first game of the day to host Austin Peay (11-8), 8-7, before defeating Stonehill (0-9), 12-3, in the second game of the day.
GAME ONE: Austin Peay 8, Ohio 7
Overall, Ohio scored seven runs on eight hits and committed two errors, while Austin Peay scored eight runs on 14 hits and committed one error.
At the plate, junior
Kylie Gorsuch (North Canton, Ohio) had three hits, one double, one home run, scored three runs and had one RBI, while sophomore
Jordyn Wycuff (Pataskala, Ohio) had a home run and three RBI. Junior
Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) added one hit and a run scored, while freshman
Sena Smith (East Liverpool, Ohio) registered two hits and scored one run.
In the circle, graduate student
Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on 14 hits, walked two and struck out five.
Austin Peay threated in the bottom of the first inning, leading the bases with two outs. However, Miller was able to get the final batter of the inning to strikeout, keeping the game scoreless.
After a scoreless second inning, Ohio struck in the top of the third. After Smith led off with a single, she would later score on a sacrifice fly from junior
Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio), putting the Bobcats ahead 1-0 going into the bottom of the third. Austin Peay tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an infield fly, knotting the game at 1-1 headed into the fourth.
Ohio took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-1 lead headed into the bottom of the inning. Austin Peay took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits and included a two-run home run to give Austin Peay the 5-3 lead headed into the fifth.
After a scoreless fifth and sixth inning from both teams, both offenses exploded in the seventh. Ohio rallied back to take the lead after Wycuff hit a three-run home run, followed by a solo shot from Gorsuch, giving Ohio a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the inning. However, Austin Peay would rally on their own, when with one out, a two-RBI walk-off double would give the Governors the 8-7 win.
GAME TWO: Ohio 12, Stonehill 3 (5 Innings)
Overall, Ohio scored 12 runs on 16 hits and committed one error, while Stonehill scored three runs on five hits and committed three errors.
At the plate, Gorsuch went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, while senior
Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI. Senior
Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, Farmer had two hits, and an RBI, while Wilson added two hits and one double. Sophomore
Alexis Book (Chillicothe, Ohio) had two hits, a double, RBI and a run scored, while graduate student
Rylee McDaniel (Ventura, Calif.) had one hit, one RBI and scored two runs.
In the circle, sophomore
Ally Meyers (Waterville, Ohio) got the start, pitching four innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits and struck out two. Junior
Mikie Lieving (New Haven, W. Va.) tossed one inning and did not allow a hit or a run.
Ohio struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs on three hits, including an RBI single from Farmer to give Ohio an early 2-0 lead. The Bobcats added on in the bottom of the second after a two-RBI single from Bare put Ohio up 4-0 headed into the third inning.
After Stonehill cut the Ohio lead to one in the top of the third, the Bobcats responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits with two two-RBI doubles from Gorsuch and Bare and RBI singles from McDaniel and Hummel, putting the Bobcats up, 11-3 entering the fourth inning.
The Bobcats added a run in the bottom of the fourth, with Gorsuch scoring on an RBI single from Book, giving Ohio a 12-3 lead. Stonehill looks to extend the game in the top of the fifth, but the Bobcats would send them down in order, securing the win.
Up next, the Bobcats wrap up the weekend on Sunday, March 1 when Ohio heads to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Belmont. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET.
