ATHENS, OHIO – The Ohio Bobcats Baseball team (1-9, 0-0 MAC) dropped Saturday afternoon's home game vs Dayton (7-2, 0-0 A10) by a 7-4 score.
Â
Ohio finished the game with four runs on nine hits and one error, while Dayton scored seven runs on 10 hits and one error.
Â
On the hill, junior Ethan Stewart (Langsville, Ohio) provided four and a third strong innings in relief, allowing no runs while striking out a batter.
Â
At the plate, junior outfielder Taylor Harris (Parrish, Fla.) led the way for the bobcats, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring two runs.
Â
After the Flyers put two runs on the board in the first and second innings, the Bobcats responded with a three run rally in the bottom of the second.
Â
After senior infielder Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario) drew a walk to lead off the inning, junior catcher Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill.) roped a double into the right center field gap, setting up the Bobcats with two runners in scoring position. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Max Palinski (Gates Mills, Ohio) scored shepherd on a groundout, before Harris singled into left, scoring Stack. Harris would eventually score on junior infielder Cam Bryant's (Miamisburg, Ohio) double to right center.
Â
Stewart cruised through the next four frames, facing the minimum three batters in the fourth and sixth innings.
Â
Dayton would add to their lead in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs to take a 7-3 lead.
Â
The Bobcats were able to answer back in the bottom of the frame, when senior outfielder Cam Hill (Chicago, Ill.) hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Harris from third.
Â
While  senior relief pitcher Dillon Masters (New Albany, Ohio) held the Flyers scoreless in the top of the ninth, the Bobcats were unable to generate any offense in the bottom of the frame and would drop the game by a score of 7-4.
Â
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday, Mar. 1) to finish up their four game series against the Flyers on the road, when they take on Dayton in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET, with game two's first petch set for 3 p.m. ET. Both games will be streaming on ESPN+.
