Ohio Softball Picks up Two Wins on First Day at Governors Classic

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- The Ohio softball team (11-5) returned to action on Friday, (Feb. 27) for the first day of the 2026 Governors Classic hosted by Austin Peay. Ohio took game one of the day against Stonehill (0-7), 12-2, in five innings, before defeating Southern Indiana (3-11), 8-0 in five innings. 

GAME ONE: Ohio 12, Stonehill, 2 (5 innings)
Overall, Ohio scored 12 runs on 12 hits and committed two errors, while Stonehill scored two runs on four hits and committed one error. 

At the plate, senior Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI, while senior Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored with one RBI and one walk. Junior Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while sophomore Jordyn Wycuff (Pataskala, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Senior Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) added a hit, drew two walks, had one RBI and scored two runs, while junior Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blachard, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Sena Smith (East Liverpool, Ohio) added one hit, drew a walk and scored two runs. 

In the circle, senior Keegan Moore (South Point, Ohio) got the start, tossing five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, walked one and struck out three. 

Ohio struck first in the top of the first inning. With one out, Bare doubled, followed by a walk from Westler, setting up a two RBI single from Wilson to put Ohio up 2-0 early. Ohio then added on in the top of the second after Wycuff doubled and then scored on a ground out from Hummel, putting the Bobcats up 3-0 after two full innings. 

After a scoreless third inning, the Bobcats added on in the top of the fourth inning. After Hummel registered an RBI single, Bare recorded her second double of the game to score another run for the Bobcats. Later in the inning, both Westler and Farmer recorded RBI singles, giving Ohio a 7-0 lead headed into the bottom of the fourth. Stonehill would get on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an RBI single, cutting the Ohio lead to 7-1 after four innings. 

Ohio got the run back and then some in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five runs on two hits and an error. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Hummel and a two-RBI double from Farmer, putting the Bobcats up 12-1 after five and a half innings. 

Stonehill looked to extend the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring a run on a two-out RBI single. However, that was the only run that Stonehill would get in the inning, with the Bobcats earning the 12-2 five innings victory. 

GAME TWO: Ohio 8, Southern Indiana 0 (5 Innings)
Overall, Ohio scored eight runs on seven hits and did not commit an error, while Southern Indiana did not score a run on two hits and committed one error. 

Bare went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Wycuff recorded her first career home run and added two RBI. Junior Mikie Lieving (New Haven, W. Va.) added one hit, a home run, one RBI and one run scored. Hummel added one hit and a run scored, while Farmer recorded a hit and an RBI, with sophomore Alexis Book (Chillicothe, Ohio) adding one hit for the Bobcats. 

In the circle, graduate student Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start, pitching four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, walked three and struck out four, while sophomore Ally Meyers (Waterville, Ohio) pitched one inning and did not allow a run or a hit. 

Ohio jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs on four hits with one error. The inning included a two-run home run from Wycuff, the first of her career, and a solo home run from Lieving to five the Bobcats the early 5-0 lead. 

Ohio added on in the top of the second inning, scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly, putting Ohio up 8-0 after two full innings. The Bobcats looked to add on in the top of the fifth inning, with Farmer and Book reaching on back-to-back singles, however the Southern Indiana defense was able to get out of the jam, sending the game to the bottom of the inning with Ohio leading, 8-0. 

Southern Indiana looked to extend the game in the bottom of the inning, but the Ohio defense would stand strong, securing the 8-0, five inning victory.

The Bobcats are back in action for the second day of the 2026 Governors Classic. The Bobcats will take on host Autin Peay at 4 p.m. ET and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio will wrap up the day at 6:30 p.m. ET against Stonehill.
