CARBONDALE, Ill.—The Ohio Baseball Team (0-1, 0-0 MAC) dropped their season opener to the Murray State Racers (1-0, 0-0 OVC) 13-4 on Friday (Feb. 13). Due to ongoing field renovations at Murray State, the game was played on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.
The Bobcats finished the game with four runs scored on 10 hits with three errors, while the Racers scored 14 on 16 hits, with three errors.
Fifth year infielder
Will Henson (Chicago, Ill.) was a top performer for the Bobcats, going 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and with two stolen bases. In addition, Juniors
Cameron Boyd (Villa Hills, Ky.) and
Taylor Harris (Parrish, Fla.) each had 2-for-5 days at the plate with an RBI and run scored.
On the bump, starting pitcher
Aiden Cook (Penfield, N.Y.) went two innings in his season debut, allowing one hit and three runs on 63 pitches. Two more Bobcats took the hill in the game.
Murray State opened up the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, and added on another two runs in the bottom of the second.
The Bobcats answered in the next frame, when junior Boyd singled to score graduate student
Colton Shirley (Anderson, Ind.). Henson followed with a single to right field, scoring Harris to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Racers answered back in the bottom of the fourth with two runs, taking a 5-2 lead. The Bobcats would again get a run back in the following frame, when sophomore
Brady Alexander (Glenshaw, Pa.) singled to left center, scoring Boyd for the Bobcat's third run of the game.
Murray State would answer back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning., taking a 9-3 lead.
The Bobcats got back on the board in the top of the 8
th inning, when Harris singled to left field, scoring redshirt sophomore
Max Palinski (Gates Mills, Ohio).
The Racers added four runs in the bottom frame, and held the Bobcats scoreless in the top of the ninth to close the game.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon against Murray State, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. Live stats will be available on StatBroadcast.
