
Ohio Women’s Basketball Falls at Miami on Saturday Afternoon

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (12-8, 6-4 MAC) fell 90-70 at Miami (18-4, 10-0 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Ohio shot 38.1 percent from the field, 30.0 percent from the arc and 76.5 percent from the line. The Bobcats finished with 35 rebounds, 12 assists and 15 steals.
Junior Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) and graduate student Elli Garnett (Lakewood, Colo.) led the team in scoring with 15 points each. Sophomore Danni Scully (Park Ridge, Ill.) also scored in the double figures, finishing with 11 points, and recorded a team-high nine rebounds.
Garnett and redshirt sophomore Bella Ranallo (Lake Forest, Ill.) distributed a team-high three assists each. Tabeling led the Bobcats in steals with four total.
Ohio got off to a good start, leading Miami 8-3 with 7:58 to play in the first quarter. Halfway through the first 10 minutes of play, the Bobcats held a 15-11 lead over the RedHawks. It was a close final two minutes. With 1:55 left on the clock, Ohio only led Miami 19-18. The Bobcats led the RedHawks 28-21 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a tough one for the Bobcats. Within the first four minutes, Miami had stolen Ohio's lead. The RedHawks continued their scoring run and went up 34-30 over Ohio with 5:45 to go in the second quarter. The Bobcats were unable to contain Miami's three-point shooter, allowing the RedHawks to pull away. Heading into the locker room, Ohio trailed Miami 48-39.
Miami only outscored Ohio 25-22 in the third quarter. With 5:23 left in the third, Ohio trailed Miami 59-51. The Bobcats came close several times to closing in on the RedHawks' lead but kept falling short. The RedHawks led the Bobcats 68-53 with just over two minutes to go. Heading into the fourth quarter, Ohio trailed Miami 73-61.
The Bobcats had a tough time containing Miami's offense in the fourth quarter. The combination of Miami's sharp shooting and Ohio's inconsistent offense resulted in a 90-70 loss for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Western Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in the Convocation Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
