ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio Bobcats wrestling team (6-5, 1-1 MAC) dropped a dual match to the SIU Edwardsville Cougars (8-1, 2-0 MAC) on Friday night (Jan. 16) by a final score of 25-11.
Redshirt senior
Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) was a standout performer for the Bobcats at 197 lbs, recording three takedowns of SIUE's Nick Nosler and earning a bonus point for 2:42 of riding time on his way to a 11-0 major decision victory.
At 149 lbs,
Paul Woo (Wheaton, Ill.) did not back down from #3 ranked Caleb Tyus of SIUE, battling for all three periods before eventually falling by 1-0 decision.
At 157 lbs,
Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W. Va.) was the first wrestler to get the Bobcats on the board with a 4-1 decision victory. Raike fought back from an early 1-0 second period deficit to record a takedown, securing a 4-1 lead that he would not relinquish.
At 174 lbs, redshirt senior
Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) started off strong recording a quick takedown and nearfall to jump to a 7-0 lead in the first period. Thompson recorded an escape and additional takedown in the second period, and earned a bonus point from 2:36 of riding time on his way to a 13-3 major decision victory.
