CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Ohio volleyball team (2-4, 0-0 MAC) fell to Jacksonville State (2-3, 0-0 CUSA) 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23, 10-15) on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Ohio finished with 39 kills, 11 aces, 16 blocks, 34 assists and 43 digs. Jacksonville State finished with 45 kills, nine aces, 41 assists and 62 digs.
Freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) led the team's offense with 11 kills and 16.5 points. Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent. Ohio) finished with 10 kills in addition to three aces, seven digs and 14 points.
Junior
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) tallied a team-high 13 digs. Blair led the team in blocking with one block solo and nine block assists. Junior
Emily Waddell (Carmel, Ind.) added five block assists.
Senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) and sophomore
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) combined for 30 assists.
Jacksonville State gained an early 1-0 lead after taking the first set, 25-19.
Ohio answered back with a 25-23 win in the second set, tying the game at 1-1. In the second set, the Bobcats found success behind 13 kills, four aces and six block assists.
The Gamecocks' 25-17 win in the third set once again gave them a lead.
With the game on the line, Ohio battled back against Jacksonville State in the fourth set. The Bobcats tied the game at 2-2 with a 25-23 win.
Ohio was unable to quell Jacksonville State's dominant effort in the fifth set. The Gamecocks went on the win the fifth in a 15-10 decision, ultimately taking the game 3-2.
The Bobcats will be back in action at the Tru By Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational. Ohio will face in-state rival Ohio State on Friday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. ET.
