CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Ohio volleyball team (2-3, 0-0 MAC) defeated Chattanooga (2-2, 0-0 SOCON) 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14) on Friday, Sept. 5.
Ohio finished with 63 kills, eight aces, three blocks, 59 assists and 52 digs. Chattanooga finished with 39 kills, four aces, six blocks, 33 assists and 46 digs. The Bobcats also recorded a team hitting percentage of .259, their best so far this season.
Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent, Ohio) led Ohio's offense with a season-high 16 kills. Long along recorded 18 points, two aces and five digs. Junior
Torre Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio) finished second on the team in kills with 14 total. Junior
Gentry Brown (Shadyside, Ohio) and freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) contributed 11 kills each.
Senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) distributed a season-high 45 assists.
Defensively, sophomore
Darbi Ricketts tallied a team-high 14 digs while junior
Emily Waddell (Carmel, Ind.) finished with two block assists.
Ohio gained an early 1-0 lead with a 25-21 win in the first set. After a little back-and-forth, the Bobcats went on a six-point scoring run and earned a 16-10 lead. Chattanooga's offense threatened Ohio, coming within two points of the Bobcats. Ohio scored three of the last four points of the set, securing a 25-21 win.
Chattanooga tied the game at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second set.
Ohio took a 2-1 lead over Chattanooga after winning the third set, 25-22. It was another close set between the Bobcats and the Mocs. The two teams were tied several times throughout the set, but Ohio didn't allow Chattanooga to take a single lead. The Bobcats closed out the third set with a great block by Kildow and Waddell, securing the 25-22 win.
The Bobcats claimed the 3-1 victory over the Mocs after a dominating 25-14 win in the fourth and final set.
The Bobcats will conclude competition at the Chattanooga Classic on Saturday, Sept. 6. Ohio will face Jacksonville State at 12 p.m. ET.
