CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Ohio volleyball team (1-3, 0-0 MAC) lost 3-1 (25-23, 10-25, 14-25, 24-26) to Cincinnati (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) at the Chattanooga Classic on Thursday, Sept. 4.
Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent, Ohio) led Ohio with a season-high 12 kills in addition to 13 points and 12 digs. Junior
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) recorded a team-high 12 digs while senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) and sophomore
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) combined for 31 assists.
Ohio and Cincinnati traded points for majority of the first set. The Bearcats gained a significant six point lead more than halfway through the set. However, the Bobcats were able to achieve a comeback after two separate scoring runs. Ohio scored three-straight points at the end of the set to win 25-23 and earn an early 1-0 lead.
Cincinnati answered back with a dominant showing in the second and third set. The Bearcats took a 2-1 lead after winning back-to-back sets.
Cincinnati opened the fourth set with five unanswered points. Ohio slowly climbed back into contention, eventually taking a 12-11 lead. The two teams traded points up until the very end. However, three-straight points from the Bearcats at the end of the set secured Cincinnati the 3-1 win over Ohio.
The Bobcats will be back in action against Chattanooga on Friday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m. ET. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
