Ohio Football Set to Face Off Against Ball State on Saturday

ATHENS, Ohio –The Ohio football team is set to continue Mid-American Conference play on the road when it takes on the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET and can be seen on CBS Sports Network with Fran Charles and Randy Crosson on the call.
 
The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is reprising his role as Ohio's play-by-play broadcaster. Bannister will be joined by color analyst Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for more than two decades. 
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. BALL STATE
The Bobcats and the Cardinals have met 28 times since 1975, posting a 13-15 record. The pair last faced off to close the 2024 regular season at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. 
 
En route to Ohio's 42-21 victory, graduate student wide receiver Coleman Owen became the third Bobcat to tally 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He joined LaVon Brazill and Donte' Foster, who reached that benchmark in 2011 and 2013, respectively.
 
This win clinched the Bobcats' spot in the 2024 MAC Championship. 
 
SCOUTING BALL STATE 
Ball State is currently 1-3 overall. Coming off a bye week following their 31-25 loss against UConn, the Cardinals average 15.5 points, 149.2 rushing yards and 122.75 passing yards per game. 
 
Redshirt senior quarterback Kiael Kelly leads Ball State in the air and is currently 46-for071 with two interceptions and three touchdowns on 472 yards. On the ground, Kelly leads the team in carries (62) and is second in rushing yards (170) as well as touchdowns (1). 
 
Redshirt junior running back Qua Ashley claims a team-best 295 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Ashley also owns one of the Cardinals; three receiving touchdowns, logging 10 receptions on 47 yards. Redshirt sophomore running back TJ Horton is responsible for 17 carries on 74 yards. 
 
Redshirt junior wide receiver Eric Weatherly currently has nine receptions on 100 yards, while redshirt freshman wide receiver Donovan Hamilton trails with eight receptions on 82 yards. Overall, more than 10 Cardinals have logged receiving yards this season. 
 
On the defensive side of the ball, redshirt senior linebacker Alfred Chea claims 20 total tackles—include 12 solo stops and 0.5 tackles for loss—while sophomore defensive back Willizhuan Yates trails with 18 tackles and four pass breakups. Redshirt junior defensive back Ashton Whitner claims a team-high in solo tackles (15) and is third in tackles for loss (3), trailing senior defensive end Nathan Voorhis (5) and redshirt junior outside linebacker DeJuan Echoles Jr. (3.5). Voorhis also leads the team in sacks (4.5).
 
Redshirt junior kicker Carson Holmer is 2-for-4 on field goals and is 6-for-6 on PATs. Additionally, Holmer has amassed 620 yards on 10 kickoffs. Redshirt senior punter Adam Saul has punted 21 times this season, accumulating 933 yards.
