ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio Soccer Team (3-4-2, 1-0-1 Mid-American Conference) returned home to Chessa Field for a match with the Bowling Green Falcons (6-1-2, 1-0-1 MAC). After 90 minutes, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
In total, Ohio was outshot 9-6, with the Bobcats having three shots on goal to the Falcons' six. Sophomore midfielder Iro Fakinou (Athens, Greece) scored the Bobcats' lone goal that was assisted by junior forward Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio).
Offensively, Ohio was led by Brooker, who tallied three shots and one assist. Graduate senior Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) contributed two shots on goal for the Bobcats. Fakinou took one shot and scored Ohio's only goal.
Senior goalkeeper Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) got the start in the net, playing all 90 minutes. Against nine shots, Sloma brought in five saves in the 1-1 draw.
Bowling Green saw the first three scoring opportunities of the day with a shot in the sixth minute. Later in the half, the Falcons tallied consecutive shots in the 21st and 22nd minutes, each missing the mark to remain tied.
The Bobcats started to control possession later in the half, with their first two scoring opportunities coming in the 28th and 32nd minutes. Tostevin was responsible for both of Ohio's shots on goal in the first half.
Defense was dominant for both sides in the first half, with Bowling Green having five shots to Ohio's three. Each team had corner opportunities with Ohio having one opportunity and Bowling Green having three. The Bobcats and the Falcons entered halftime tied 0-0.
The Falcons had the first scoring attempt of the second half with a shot on goal in the 46th minute. Despite this, Ohio successfully maintained possession on its own half of the pitch for a majority of the opening minutes of the second half.
Ohio didn't tally a shot on goal in the second half until Fakinou controlled a shot off the crossbar from Brooker to put a shot in the back of the net and take the lead 1-0 at the 77th-minute mark. Brooker tallied an assist on the play.
Bowling Green quickly responded with a goal of its own at the 82nd mark, tying the score 1-1.
The Bobcats had one final scoring attempt in the 88th minute, but Brooker's shot was just over the net to end the game in a 1-1 draw.
Ohio will return to action Sept. 21 when it takes on Akron at home on Chessa Field. At Sunday's game versus the Zips, the Seniors of the Ohio Women's Soccer team will be recognized pre-game. First touch is set for 1 p.m. E.T. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
