PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio –It's September and feeling like fall in Athens, and the Bobcats are ready to host West Virginia at The Frank this Saturday!. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints, presented by Memorial Health System.

FOOTBALL

The Ohio football team is set to open the 2025 home slate when it hosts West Virginia (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and can be seen on ESPNU with Courtney Lyle and Rene Ingoglia on the call. The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is reprising his role as Ohio's play-by-play broadcaster. Bannister will be joined by color analyst Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for more than two decades. 

The Bobcats and the Mountaineers have met 16 times since 1897, posting a 4-12 record. The two programs last faced off in 2001; Ohio fell, 20-3. The Mountaineers' last trip to Athens was in 1949. 

Ohio is coming off a thrilling 34-31 loss at Rutgers last Thursday on the road. Quarterback Parker Navarro was incredible in Week one with 21 completions for 239 passing yards and three passing touchdowns to go along with 96 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. The Ohio offense spread the ball well against Rutgers, with eight different receivers tallying at least one catch in the contest. Junior wide receiver Chase Hendricks was among the best of the bunch with a career-high nine receptions for 115 yards. Tight ends Jake Bruno and Mason Williams tallied all of Ohio's receiving touchdowns, with Bruno hauling in two and Williams scoring one. On the ground, redshirt senior running back Sieh Bangura made a statement in his return with the Bobcats, tallying 88 yards on 16 attempts.  

Defensively, Ohio was led in tackles by senior captain Adonis Williams Jr., who tallied 11 from the safety position. Sophomore defensive end Jay Crable tallied the lone sack for Ohio when he got to the Rutgers quarterback on the first drive of the game. In the passing game, redshirt junior linebacker Jack Fries was among Ohio's best with one breakup. 

West Virginia is coming off a 45-3 victory over Robert Morris in Morgantown last Saturday. Quarterback Nicco Marchiol completed 17 of 20 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown and ran 13 times for 56 yards and another score in the win. 

WOMEN'S GOLF
Aug. 31-Sept. 1 / at 2025 A-Ga-Ming Invitational / Kewadin, Mich. Sundance Golf Course / All Day / Live Results 

The Ohio women's golf team continues action at the 2025 A-Ga-Ming Invitational. The Bobcats' first event of the season is hosted by Central Michigan at the Sundance Golf Course in Kewdin, Mich. Monday's final round will be 18 holes starting at 8 a.m. 

Ohio finished the first day in second place after recording a two-round score of 588 )+12). The Bobcats registered a first round score of 287, one off the program record. Junior Zoe Luebbers currently sits in seocnd place after finished the day two-under. 

Competing in this year's event are Central Michigan, Oakland, Loyola Chicago, Niagara, Detriot Mercy, WMU, Bellarmine, Green bay, BGSU, Ohio, Bradley and Chicago State. 

The full lineup for this year's event are Luebbers, senior Mackenzie McRee, junior Morgan Rodgers, sophomore Saylor Wharff and freshman Paige Treherne, while sophomore Ally Turner is compeating as an individual.

The Ohio soccer team (2-3-0) is back in action for two matchups this week. The week begins on Thursday, Sept. 4 when the Bobcats host Northern Kentucky (3-0-2) in Athens. First touch is set for 4 p.m. ET at Chessa Field and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then heads to Bloomington, Ind. on Sunday, Sept. 7 to take on Indiana (2-2-0). First touch is set for 1 p.m. ET at Bill Armstrong Stadium and can be seen on BIG+. 

NoKU comes to Athens with a 3-0-2 and is coming off a 5-0 victory over Morehead State Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats defeated the Norse, 4-0, last season. Indiana is currently 2-2 on the season after dropping a 2-1 match to Bellarmine on Sunday in Louisville, Ky. The Hoosiers will take on Xavier in Cloomington on Thursday before hosting the Bobcats. 

Ohio is coming off a 3-0 win over Oakland on Aug. 28. Sophomore Sania Dearing and senior Scout Murray led the Bobcats in scoring, with Dearing scoring two goals and Murray adding one. Dearing and senior Ella Deevers led the team with three shots each.

The Ohio volleyball team (1-2) is back in action for the second week of the 2025 season when they head to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the 2025 Chattanooga Classic Sept. 4-6 inside McKenzie Arena. The weekend begins on Thursday, Sept. 4 when the Bobcats take on Cincinnati (1-1). First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET. Ohio is back in action on Friday, Sept. 5 against host Chattanooga (2-1) at 12 p.m. ET, before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday, Sept. 6 against Jacksonville State )1-2. First serve is set for 12 p.m. ET. 

Cincinnati is currently 1-1 after the first full weekend of play, with the Bearcats defeating Wake Forest on Friday before falling to Michigan in Cincinnati. Chattanooga enters the weekend with a 2-1 tournament after opening the season at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla., defeating Norfolk State and EC Riverside and falling to host UCF. Jacksonville State is 1-2 after competing at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic, defeating Portland State and falling to Airforce and Seattle. 

Ohio opened the 2025 season last weekend at the 2025 Bobcat Invitational where Ohio went 1-2, defeating Bucknell, before falling to Iowa State and Eastern Illinois.

The Ohio field hockey team (0-2) is back in action for one match this weekend when they head to St. Louis, Mo. to take on St. Louis. First touch is set for 1 p.m. ET at the SLU Field Hockey Complex. 

St. Louis is 0-1 to open the season after falling to Ball State, 3-2, in Muncie, Ind. Ohio defeated St Louis, 5-1 last season in Athens. 

Ohio opened the season in Louisville, Ky. last weekend, falling to both Michigan State and host Louisville.
