ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (1-2, 0-0 MAC) fell to Eastern Illinois (2-0, 0-0 OVC) 3-0 (21-25, 20-25, 22-25) on Sunday, August 31.
Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent, Ohio) recorded a team-high 11 kills, two aces, 11 digs and 13 points. Freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) finished with 10 kills and 11 points.
Junior
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) tallied 10 digs and six assists as Ohio's libero. Senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded a team-high 18 assists in addition to six digs.
It was a competitive start to the game as Ohio and Eastern Illinois went back-and-forth for the first 10 points. The Panthers pulled away from the Bobcats, taking a 21-16 lead. Ohio's comeback attempt was unfortunately too late. Despite their effort, the Bobcats dropped the first set 25-21 to Eastern Illinois.
Eastern Illinois' momentum continued into the second set. Although the score remained close throughout the set, it was evident that the Panthers were in control. Eastern Illinois increased its lead to 2-0 with a 25-20 win in the second.
Eastern Illinois secured a 3-0 victory with a 25-22 win in the third and final set.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they face Cincinnati in the Chattanooga Classic on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. ET.
