ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (1-1, 0-0 MAC) fell to Iowa State (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 13-25) on Saturday, August 30.
Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent, Ohio) recorded a team-high nine kills and 13 points. Long and freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) tallied a team-high four aces each. Junior
Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) added six kills and seven points. Sophomore
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) and senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) combined for a total of 23 assists. Janke and junior
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) recorded six digs each.
Ohio and Iowa State traded points at the beginning of the first set. The Cyclones gained control of the momentum and gradually increased their lead over the Bobcats. Ohio attempted to cut Iowa State's lead but was unsuccessful. Iowa State took the first set, 25-18.
The second set was tight with both teams going back-and-forth. Neither team held more than a two-point lead throughout the set. Despite going up 22-20 near the end, Ohio's hard fought effort was diminished after Iowa State recorded three-straight points and won the set. The Cyclones went up 2-0 with a 25-23 win in the second set.
The Bobcats were unable to contain Iowa State's offense in the third set. The Cyclones took the third set in a 25-13 decision, securing the 3-0 win.
The Bobcats will conclude the weekend of competition against Eastern Illinois on Sunday, August 31 at 12 p.m. ET.
