KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ohio baseball team (14-36, 9-20 MAC) dominated Western Michigan (18-32, 11-18 MAC) 12-1 and secured the series win with a 12-1 victory on Friday, May 16.
Ohio finished with 11 hits and four errors. Western Michigan finished with three hits and no errors.
Four Bobcats finished with two hits each. Graduate student
Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) and redshirt sophomore
Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) both finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a team-high three runs each. Sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) also finished 2-for-2 at the plate with two home runs and a team-high four RBIs.
Senior
Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) started on the mound for Ohio and earned the win today after holding Western Michigan to one run and three hits. In seven innings pitched, Boncal recorded six strikeouts.
Once again, Slanker kicked off the game with a two RBI home run. The Bobcats scored two more runs in the top of the first and took an early 4-0 lead over the Broncos.
Back-to-back sacrifice flies scored two more runs for Ohio in the top of the second, giving the Bobcats a 6-0 lead.
Bryant blasted a home run to right field in the top of the fourth to extend Ohio's lead to 7-0. In the same inning, Slanker hit his second two RBI home run of the game.
After six innings of play, Ohio held a 12-0 lead over Western Michigan.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Broncos scored their lone run of the game. The Bobcats forced the run rule, walked away with a 12-1 victory and secured the series win.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Western Michigan on Saturday, May 17. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET.
