ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (12-35, 7-19 MAC) fell 10-5 to Ball State (33-18, 19-7 MAC) on Saturday, May 10.
Ohio finished with 13 hits and two errors. Ball State finished with 10 hits and no errors.
Sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) led Ohio with three hits, two RBIs and one run. Junior
Cale Steinbaugh (Georgetown, Ill.), senior
Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and redshirt sophomore
Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) all recorded two hits each.
Senior
Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) started on the mound for Ohio. In 5.1 innings pitched, Boncal recorded three strikeouts. Six other Bobcats appeared on the mound including freshman
Julian Robertson (Aurora, Ontario) who recorded two strikeouts.
Ball State got off to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. An RBI double by Slanker in the bottom of the first got Ohio on the board. After the first, Ohio trailed 4-1.
Ohio cut Ball State's lead in half with an RBI single by Cauthron in the bottom of the third inning.
Ball State increased its lead to 7-2 in the top of the sixth. Ohio responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth including an RBI ground out, RBI double by Steinbaugh and RBI single by Slanker.
The Bobcats were unable to catch the Cardinals and Ball State went on to win the game 10-5.
The Bobcats will be back in action against Ball State on Sunday, May 11. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET.
