ATHENS, Ohio –Spring is in full force in Athens and baseball and softball are back home for a weekend of fun at the ballpark. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.

The Ohio baseball team (8-22, 411 MAC) is back in action this week starting on Wednesday, April 9 when the Bobcats host Marshall (16-16). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET at Bob Wren Stadium and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio stay in Athens for a nonconference weekend series with VMI (20-13) starting on Friday, April 11 at 6 p.m. ET. Ohio and VMI are back in action on Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. ET, before concluding the series on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m. ET. All three games will be streamed on YouTube. 

Ohio is coming off a a 1-4 week that saw the Bobcats pick up a thrilling 17-16 win in 12 innings at NIU on Saturday. Sophomore Ben Slanker totaled six hits, two doubles, two home runs, five runs, eight RBI's and 14 total bases. Slanker recorded a cumulative batting average of .353 and slugging percentage of .824. Slanker was a vital part of Ohio's 17-16 win in extra innings over Northern Illinois. He got the Bobcats on the board in the top of the fourth with his first career grand slam, giving Ohio a 4-0 lead. The sophomore finished 3-for-5 at the plate with one double, two home runs, four total runs and seven RBI's.Slanker ranks first in the MAC for home runs, RBI's and slugging percentage.

Marshal is currently 16-16 overall and are coming off a series win against 13th-raked Southern Miss. last weekend in Huntington. The Herd defeated Ohio, 11-7 in 12 innings on March 4. VMI is currently 20-13 overall and is coming off a series loss to Mercer this past weekend. VMI will face off with Radford on Wednesday before coming to Athens.

The Ohio softball team (25-10, 8-2 MAC) is back in action for a MAC matchup in Athens this weekend. The Bobcats host Toledo (10-22, 3-8 MAC) starting on Friday, April 11 for a single game set to begin at 3 p.m. ET at the Ohio Softball Field. The two teams wrap up the three-game series on Saturday, April 12 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET. All three games can be seen on ESPN+. 

Ohio is coming off a 3-1 week that saw the Bobcats sweep Kent State in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Athens, before splitting a doubleheader with Akron on Friday in Akron. 

Toledo is currently 10-22 overall with a 3-8 mark in MAC play and is coming off a a doubleheader sweep against Michigan State on Friday in Toledo. 

TRACK AND FIELD
April 11-12 / 2025 We Fly Challenge / Muncie, Ind. / University Track at Briner Sports Complex / 9 a.m. ET / Live Results / Schedule of Events 

Ohio track and field team is back in action April 11-12 when they head to Muncie, Ind. for the 2025 We Fly Challenge. The two-day event will begin at 9 a.m. ET at the University Track at Briner Sports Complex on the campus of Ball State. 

The Bobcats are coming off a strong weekend at the 2025 Cherry Blossom Invitational hosted by the Bobcats in Athens last Friday. Sophomore Ellie Greenwell was Ohio's top performer of the day, recording the fourth fastest outdoor time in program history in the women's 800m. Greenwell championed the event with a personal-best time of 2:09.41. Ohio had multiple athletes compete in the women's 800m. Junior Sara Doughman  placed fourth (2:13.41), junior Sophie Besett came in seventh (2:17.45) and freshman Jaclyn Garvey finished in ninth place (2:19.19).

MEN'S GOLF
April 11-12 / at 2025 Buckeye Classic / Columbus, Ohio /  Columbus CC / All Day / Live Results

The Ohio men's golf team is back in action April 11-12 at the 2025 Buckeye Classic hosted by Ohio State at the Columbus Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. The two-day event will begin on Friday, April 11 with 36 holes, before concluding on Saturday, April 12 with 18 holes. 

Competing at this year's event are Dayton, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky, Le Moyne, Purdue Fort Wayne, Miami, Ohio State, Colgate, Ohio, Robert Morris, Abilene Christian and Bowling Green. 

The Bobcats are coming off a trip to the Testudo Cup hosted by Maryland University April. 5-6 at the P.B. Dye Golf Course. The Bobcats finished ninth place with an overall score of 889 (+25). Individually, Nathaniel Gray Lamont led the Bobcats recording rounds of 68 and 72 on day one, before finishing Sunday with a 76 for a total tournament score of 216 (E) and a five-way tie for 10th-place finish.
