Ohio Baseball Drops Game Three at NIU on Sunday

DEKALB, Ill – The Ohio baseball team (8-22, 4-11 MAC) fell 17-7 at Northern Illinois (12-18, 2-8 MAC) on Sunday, April 6.  

Ohio finished with seven runs, 11 hits and one error. Northern Illinois finished with 17 runs, 10 hits and no errors.  

Senior Tyler Peck (Oak Creek, Wis.) started on the mound for Ohio and pitched 2.2 innings. Peck threw one strikeout, allowed five hits and seven runs on 10 at bats. Sophomore Ethan Stewart (Langsville, Ohio) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit and stuck out two. Redshirt junior Dylan Eggl (Albion, Ind.) threw one strikeout in one inning pitched. 

Graduate student Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) went 2-for-4 at the plate with one home run and recorded four RBI. Sophomore Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) finished 2-for-5, along with one run and one RBI. Redshirt senior Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded one run on one hit and two RBI.  

After a scoreless first inning, Northern Illinois was first to strike, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. The Bobcats responded in the top of the third. With two Bobcats in scoring position, Slanker singled to third for Ohio's first run. Dolan followed with a two-RBI single to get the Bobcats within one, and Reed singled to tie the game 4-4.  

Northern Illinois tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third and eight runs in the fourth to take a 15-4 lead after four.  

Reed's strong offensive performance continued, hitting a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to set the score, 15-7. 

Northern Illinois went on to score two additional runs, ultimately winning 17-7. 

The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Marshall on Tuesday, April 8. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
