MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Ohio softball team (33-14, 16-5 MAC) returned to action Sunday afternoon (April 27), with a 6-0 victor over Central Michigan (24-22, 16-7 MAC), securing the series victory for the Bobcats.
Overall, Ohio scored six runs on eight hits and did not commit an error, while CMU did not score a run on four hits and committed one error.
At the plate, senior
Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a hoe rune, two RBI and two runs scored, while senior
CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Sophomore
Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored. Senior
Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) added a double, while senior
Maddie Wilcox (Grove City, Ohio) recorded two RBI. Junior
Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) drew a walk and scored a run for the Bobcats.
In the circle, redshirt junior
Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) continued her stellar stretch, pitching seven shutout innings, while walking one and striking out three for her 15
th win of the season.
Ohio struck first in the top of the first inning. After Yuhas led the inning off with a single, she then scored after Keidel reached on a bunt single of her own. Moments later, and RBI double from Farmer scored Keidel, giving Ohio a 2-0 lead with no outs. After Farmer advanced to third on a ground out, she would score on a ground out, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead headed into the bottom of the frame.
The game remained uneventful until the bottom of the seventh inning when Central Michigan looked to get on the board. After putting runners on first and second with no outs, the Ohio defense was able to retire the next three batters to end the threat and hold onto the 3-0 lead headed into the sixth inning.
Ohio added on in the top of the sixth inning. After Keidel led the inning off with a single, Hoffner crushed a double down the leftfield line, putting runners on second and third with one out. Moments later, Wilcox lined out to left, allowing Keidel to score, giving Ohio a 4-0 lead headed into the bottom of the inning.
After CMU stranded a runner in the bottom of the sixth, Ohio added on in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-run home run from Yuhas to give Ohio a 6-0 lead headed into the bottom of the seventh.
CMU looked to rally, drawing a walk to get the leadoff batter on, however, the Ohio defense was able to make quick work of the next three CMU batter, with Miller striking out the final batter of the game looking to secure the 6-0 shutout victory.
Up next, the Bobcats wrap up the home portion of the regular season on Tuesday, April 29 when the Bobcats take on Ball State for a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
