PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio –This week, men's and women's golf are battling it out at MAC Championships, while softball hosts Ohio State, with Miami coming to town to take on baseball! Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Ohio women's golf team heads to the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament April 20-22. This year's event is hosted by Ball State at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind. The three-day event begins on Sunday, April 20 with 18 holes, followed by 18 on Monday, April 21, with the tournament concluding on Tuesday, April 22 with the final 18 holes. Ohio sits in third-place after the first round of competition. 

Competing for Ohio is junior Mackenzie McRee, senior Sydney Longstreth, sophomore Zoe Luebbers, sophomore Morgan Rodgers and freshman Ally Turner

The 10 teams competing at this year's tournament ate Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Ohio Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan. 

Ohio Placed sixth at least year's event and were led by Mackenzie McRee and Zoe Luebbers who tied for 14th. Kent State was crowned champion.  

MEN'S GOLF

The Ohio men's golf team heads to the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships April 27-29. This year's event is hosted by Bowling Green at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio. Pinnacle was host site for last year's women's championships. 

The nine teams competing in this year's championships are: Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo. 

Ohio finished ninth at last year's championships. Senior Sam Hogan placed 35th, while junior Will Kates finished 36th.

The Ohio softball team (31-12, 14-4 MAC) is back in action for four more games this week. The week begins on Tuesday, April 22 when the Bobcats host Ohio State (37-10-1). First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio is then back on the road for more MAC play April 25-26 when the Bobcats head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. for a three-game series with Central Michigan (23-19, 15-5 MAC). The series begins on Friday, April 25 with one game set for 3 p.m. The series concludes on Saturday, April 26 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET. All three games will be streamed on CMU's website. 

Ohio is coming off a 5-0 week that saw Ohio sweep Bowling Green i a midweek series on Tuesday on the road, before returning to Athens to sweep Miami for the first time since 2017. Redshirt junior Skipp Miller was a force in the circle, making appearing in four games while making three starts. She went 2-0 with a save while throwing 19.0 innings and recording a 0.37 ERA. She allowed one earned run on 19 hits, walked two and struck out 24. Senior Lauren Yuhas hit .412 with seven hits, one double, one triple, one RBI, scored five runs and drew three walks. She also stole four bases and had a .588 slugging percentage. 

Ohio State is currently 37-10-1 overall and 11-5 in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes are coming off a three-game sweep of Michigan in Columbus last weekend. Central Michigan is 23-19 overall and 15-5 in MAC play. CMU is coming off a three-game sweep of Bowling Green last weekend and will take on Notre Dame in South Bend on Tuesday before hosting the Bobcats.

The Ohio baseball team (9-29, 4-14 MAC) is back in action for some MAC play this week. The week begins on Tuesday, April 22 when Ohio hosts Northern Kentucky (22-16) for one game set to begin at 6 p.m. ET at Bob Wren Stadium. The game will be streamed on YouTube. Ohio is back in action for a three-game series with Miami (21-18, 5-5 MAC) starting on Friday, April 25 at 6 p.m. ET, before returning to the diamond on Saturday, April 26 at 4 p.m. ET. The series concludes on Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m. ET. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+. This weekend will also serve as Senior Weekend for the Bobcats. 

NKU is currently 22-16 overall and are coming off a three-game sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne on the road last weekend. Miami is currently 21-18 overall with a 16-5 mark in MAC play and are coming off a series win at CMU last weekend. The RedHawks will take on Bellarmine on Tuesday at home before heading to Athens this weekend.
